So, who's ready to READ? Your school library has something for everybody so stop by and checkout at least one book between now and Wednesday afternoon, and be preapared to keep the Read Across America celebration going at home!
Wednesday March 2nd is Read Across America Day! At OLS, each grade level has their own way of celebrating. For example, Gr. 1 will enjoy almost every Dr. Seuss book from our library throughout the week along with a special visit from Mrs. Mayfield. Gr. 4 has invited me to visit and I will attempt a fun, tongue-twisting read aloud. And all of our students have been getting excited about a collection of books, written by a certain famous author who is coming to see us on March 8th! Mrs. Dorn, Mrs. Nicolini, classroom teachers and I have been reading his books aloud to K-8 students who are now quite eager to check them out. Fortunately, we just added a LOT of new ones to our collection.

What a blessing to add over 75 new titles to the library during our Add-A-Book event. Participating students checked out the new library book(s) they added and enjoyed seeing their personalized bookplate. (Parents: a receipt and "Thank you!" bookmark is in the back pocket.) Permission slips are still trickling in so, we are extending the opportunity to add new books to our school library by one more week. We have plenty left to choose from in Fiction, Information, and Everybody sections.
Please enjoy perusing some of the titles that were added this week by clicking the "Destiny Quest" link at the top of this page, where you'll see "New in 2016" in the Resources box. Here are a few new titles the library staff chose to donate. We wish you happy reading, and a happy St. Valentine's Day! If you’re looking for a way to show some love to your library, bring those "Add-A-Book" permission slips ASAP! Students cannot add a book to our library without one. The ADD-A-BOOK event kicks off Mon. and ends Thurs., Feb. 11. Participating student(s) will enjoy choosing from over 100 shiny NEW library books (pre-selected to enhance our collection) to add to our library shelves. Their chosen book(s) will feature a special OLS 2016 bookplate with their name inside the front cover. New this year, bookplates can also include "In Honor of" or "In Memory of" someone special. Teachers and staff are welcome to Add-A-Book too! Some books are $15 and the rest are $20. Extra permission slips are available in the school office & library, or print one at home (see pdf under previous blog entry.) Thank you for considering this opportunity to support literacy at OLS School. We can’t wait to get these wonderful new books into students’ hands! |
